Spring is in the air, school activities are winding down, and high school graduations are right around the corner.  I love this time of year! It’s so chock full of new life and excitement…the anticipation of vacations, days at the lake, and hanging out with friends and family.  It doesn’t get much better than this!

I thought it would be fun to do a Q&A with a few seniors to find out about their future plans and thoughts on what’s to come. Here are their responses…

Where do you attend high school, and what are your plans for college?

Katie: I attend Skutt Catholic High School in Omaha and will attend the University of Nebraska –Lincoln.

Kyleigh: I attend Kearney Catholic High School and will attend the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

Josh: I attend Hastings High School and will attend Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.

What is your anticipated major, and how did you decide on this major/career?

Katie: I’m not 100% sure about a major, but I’m very interested in either physical therapy, occupational therapy, or becoming a pediatrician. I’m considering physical therapy because my grandma was at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. When I’d go visit her, it just seemed like an environment and career that I’d enjoy for the rest of my life. Pediatrics is a strong possibility, too. Whatever I choose, I would love to work with kids!

Kyleigh: I am planning to major in Architecture. I chose this field because it combines both of my passions; art and mathematics. It seems like the perfect fit for me, and it’s attainable at a college that’s not only near my hometown, but the right fit for me as well.

Josh: I plan on majoring in psychology and business. I took a psychology class my senior year and fell in love with it! I want to go into Industrial-Organizational Psychology, so majoring in psychology with a minor in business is best for my future.

When thinking of college, what are you most nervous about?

Katie: I’m very nervous about attending a new school as a freshman, being in an unfamiliar place, and adjusting to adulting on my own.

Kyleigh: I’m most worried about the workload that will come along with school and finding the time to deal with it all.  I’m also very concerned about the cost of college because I’ll spend seven years in school – which equates to a lot of money!

Josh: I will be very far away from Nebraska, so I guess the distance is what I’m most nervous about. Other than that, I’m not really nervous about anything else.

What are you looking forward to about college:

Katie: I’m really looking forward to meeting new people and figuring out my own routine, which I’ll eventually get used to. I’m also looking forward to starting a real job and making “adult money.”

Kyleigh: I’m so excited to meet new people and branch out! I want to extend my circle of acquaintances and friends and create meaningful connections and relationships.

Josh: I’m very excited to meet new people, work with professors, and continue the path toward a fulfilling life. Going to college will be the first time I will live anywhere but Hastings, so I am also excited to see what that will teach me.

I’d like to thank all three seniors for their contributions to this blog. I wish you all, nothing but success in your future endeavors! Congratulations to all of the seniors out there, on your upcoming graduation!
