Admissions

Follow these steps to begin the college admissions process.

Speak with a college admissions representative. Ask about:

Career assessment resources offered by the college. Use these resources to select a field of study that matches your skills and interests.

Admission requirements. The college will request items such as your high school transcript or GED certificate and scores. If you're a fairly recent high school graduate, they will ask for ACT or SAT scores. Otherwise, they may have you take a standardized placement test such as ASSET or COMPASS.

Important deadlines. Make sure you're aware of deadlines for submitting applications for admission, college-based scholarships and financial aid. Ask if the college application serves as the application for scholarships.

Fees. Typically, colleges will charge an admission fee.

Financial aid. Ask what you might expect in a financial aid award package and about the availability of college-based scholarships for adult learners.

Transferring credits. If you previously took college coursework, those credits may transfer.

Adult Basic Education. Some colleges offer coursework for adults designed to bring you up to speed in areas such as math, science and English.

Apply for Admission

Complete the admission application before the deadline. Most colleges prefer that you apply online. If the college requires a separate application for college-based scholarships, submit it at the same time.
