College Prep
Follow these steps in high school to prepare for college
Find an adult to help you
Preparing for college is less overwhelming if you have an adult to help you:
- find scholarships
- explore ways to pay for college
- research colleges
- set up campus visits - and go with you
- complete college admission applications
- complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
- provide ongoing support and encouragement
This person can be a parent, relative, parent of a friend, teacher, guidance counselor, coach or mentor. The thing is…it's up to you to ask for help! And you need to keep asking for help until you find someone who will.
If you have trouble finding an adult to help you, many statewide agencies can offer assistance.
Take required coursework
Make sure you take classes that will allow you to graduate from high school and meet college admission requirements. Follow the guidelines at the right for admission into Nebraska colleges.
Talk to your guidance counselor about academic requirements for community colleges and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as they may differ.
- Meet with a high school guidance counselor to determine if your child is on the right track toward meeting course requirements.
