Governor Heineman will help Ogallala students KnowHow2GO to college
(LINCOLN, Nebraska, October 4, 2007) – Governor Dave Heineman will visit Ogallala High School Tuesday, October 9 from 8:15-9:15 a.m. to talk to 8th, 9th and 10th graders about career opportunities in Nebraska and the importance of going to college. His presentation is part of a "pep rally" based on the KnowHow2GO college-access campaign.
KnowHow2GO is a national campaign that promotes four steps 8th - 10th graders need to follow to make college a reality. EducationQuest Foundation is coordinating the campaign in Nebraska and has conducted KnowHow2GO pep rally events at schools across the state.
During the event, students will learn about the following steps in a fun, interactive way:
1. Be a pain - in a good way. Ask an adult to help guide you to college and keep asking until you find someone who will.
2. Push yourself. Take rigorous coursework in high school and get involved in extracurricular activities.
3. Find the right fit. Discover colleges that match your career interests and skills.
4. Put your hands on some cash. Apply for scholarships and financial aid.
Others involved in the event are Ashley Bauer, Miss Nebraska; Mike McArtor, Guidance Counselor at Ogallala High School; Ali Jay, Enrollment Management Director at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff; Jodi Vanden Berge, Director of College Planning at EducationQuest Foundation; and David Duzik, College Planning Specialist at EducationQuest.
EducationQuest will also conduct KnowHow2GO pep rally events at Horizon Middle School in Kearney on October 9; Lewis and Clark Middle School in Omaha on October 19; and North Star High School in Lincoln on November 14. A previous event was held at Falls City High School.
