Each year, EducationQuest selects six Nebraska high school guidance counselors to receive a Guidance Counselor Enrichment Scholarship. The scholarship funds the counselors' attendance at a national or regional college admission or career conference and also provides $1,000 for the purchase of college or career planning materials for the counselors' guidance offices.
The 2009 Guidance Counselor Enrichment Scholarship recipients are Jan Carper, Hastings Senior High School; Kevin Fields, Milford High School; Jeffrey Horner, Minden High School; Linda Koehler, Heartland Community School, Henderson; Cheryl Kreikemeier, Wisner-Pilger Junior Senior High School; and Bryson Wiser, Omaha North High Magnet School.
Carper and Fields will attend the Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling Conference April 19-21, 2009 in Overland Park, KS. Horner and Wiser will attend the National Association for College Admission Counseling Conference September 24-26, 2009 in Baltimore, MD. Koehler and Kreikemeier will attend the Careers Conference in early 2010 in Madison, WI.
"Nebraska high school guidance counselors play a vital role in helping students transition from high school to college - often with little funding," said EducationQuest President Liz S. Koop. "We're pleased to support their efforts by providing professional development opportunities and much-needed resources through this scholarship."
