2010-2011 School Year

For a list of items needed for the FAFSA, the STUDENT must answer the following dependency questions to determine if parental information is required.

Yes No	Were you born before January 1, 1987?
Yes No	As of today, are you married? Answer "Yes" if separated, but not divorced.
Yes No	Will you begin the 2010-11 school year working on a master’s or doctorate program?
Yes No	Are you currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purposes other than training?
Yes No	Are you a veteran of the Armed Forces?
Yes No	Do you have children who receive more than half of their support from you?
Yes No	Do you have dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you, now and through June 30, 2011?
Yes No	Were you an orphan, ward of court, or in foster care at any time since age 13?
Yes No	Are you in legal guardianship or an emancipated minor?
Yes No	Since July 1, 2009 were you determined to be an unaccompanied youth who was homeless or in danger of becoming homeless?

If you answered YES to any of the questions above you are an independent student so parental information is not required on the FAFSA.

If you answered NO to all of the questions above you are a dependent student and must supply student and parent information on the FAFSA.
