Overcoming Challenges

Most adult learners feel like they have taken on too much at some point in their college career. Follow this advice to help you overcome the challenges.

Manage your time. Invest in a daily planner and keep one calendar for assignments, exams and family events.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help from family, friends and other support groups as you try to balance work, family and school.

Learn study skills.  Ask questions and participate in class discussions. Take a class to learn how to read a text book, take notes, test well, and increase your vocabulary.

Seek academic advising.  Your academic advisor will help you follow class pre-requisites and can match your learning style to the instructor.  Meet with your advisor often to stay on track for graduation.

Manage your finances. The Student Services Office on campus can connect you with financial aid and employment programs.EducationQuest can also help you apply for financial aid, look for scholarships, and learn about student loans.
